Nice atmosphere, food is very pricey ,if u on a budget ,it's not ur place. Shrimp po boy was the worst I ever had, on the other hand the shrimp on the shrimp dinner was very big and juicy, it would have been nice to have those on the po boy.

I give this a 4.5!! I really liked the restaurant that food is pretty good! It's is overpriced because this place is a very touristy place! We sat outside were you could see the beach! It's was really nice! The waiter was really friendly and funny! If you do sit outside people will smoke so if you don't like that sit inside. All and all a really good restaurant and will be revisiting this place when we come back !

Well, this place reminded me a lot of Joe's Crab Shack. The food was pretty good in flavor but they did not de-vein the shrimp and when you order a plate of 18 shrimp, that sucks. That us a huge no no in my book as I worked in food service for years and never would the places I work serve shrimp like that. One thing I can say, the Gumbo is awesome. It was very flavorful. The service was average. If you want to be on the beach/boardwalk and eat some seafood, this isn't bad.

3.5 stars. Okay so go for the drinks, and the view. They are both fantastic. Service is sharp as a nail, and very attentive. After church last sunday the sun finally came out. The top went down on the car and I decided to grab some eats with a handsome man. Unfortunately said handsome man wanted something seafoody, and this kitty is allergic... but I thought I'd be a good sport and try not to die. A 20 minute wait for a seat at the bar ended within 30 seconds when I offered to take a table in the sun. Lol.. to other patron's dismay we were seated immediately. Sorry dudes- be flexible, and take what's available. Plus I had my SPF 50 from Obagi on that I just got from Destin Anti Aging clinic the day before... so yes! They use Island Oasis for their daiquiris and ritas so that wins me over every time. I got a virgin one and the handsome man got a rum runner that was to die for! I haven't had a better one since.. 2003 panama city (which is not too far away). So.. let's be clear here, this is a SEAFOOD RESTAURANT. There aren't that many kitty friendly items on the menu. But they do have a mean house salad (which i was misinformed as romaine lettuce and spinach), and topped with chicken. Grilled, blackened, or fried. There is also a burger, and a steak i think (12 oz ny strip), and pasta. So there's a few things to choose from. My salad came out and I wasn't disappointed that there wasnt any spinach because my romaine was SUPER GREEN with no scary white lettuce to be found, and the salad dressing was on the side. No crutons like I asked (got to stay gluten free as much as possible) and a HUGE side of chicken adorned the top. :) Its got beach access so be prepared to see some hot (and some not so hot) mommas walking around in their cut off shorts (with the pockets hanging out it looks like a colostomy bag...) and bikini tops. Again, come here for the view and the drinks.

Fantastic dinner! My son (15) and I shared the Triple Crab Feast. Service was great as well. Wife had the Grouper and was very pleased. Avoid the crowd at the Destin location and take the short drive to the Fort Walton location. You'll drive there, be sat, have dinner, and drive back in the time you wait for a table in Destin.

I came with a large group (10 people) who were looking for authentic seafood from the gulf coast. Well it is to be warned that this is very commercial/chain tasting seafood. It was bland and was no better than anything I could have gotten at a joes crab shack....yet very overpriced. In addition, the service is subpar. Our waitress seemed a bit annoyed with us and although they articulated to us that they do not have an official closing time it was obvious they were ready for us to leave around 11 as they hovered like vultures waiting to clean. I would not recommend this place at all mainly because if I'm going to have chain food, there are places that offer more fair priced and better tasting options.

The view is worth the visit! November 2012 went for Lunch, I had fried shrimp, very fresh jumbo gulf shrimp cooked to perfection. Friend ordered the coconut shrimp, same review. Service was perfect!

The Crab Trap is what you want on vacation in Florida. Decent food, outdoor ocean seating, beach access, fun music. Don't expect the best meal of your life, just relax and have fun.

The Crab Trap would get 5 stars if the view and location were all that mattered. It is located on the boardwalk on Okaloosa Island and overlooks the gulf. The food and service at this location left a lot to be desired. We had lunch here on a Thursday shortly after noon. There were only a few other tables taken during our meal. I ordered the grilled mahi-mahi. It came out very dry. Two others in our group had grilled fish and theirs was overcooked as well. My wife ordered the fried grouper sandwich. It was good. Even though the restaurant was not busy, it took too long for our check to arrive and then for our waitress to return with the credit card and receipt. She did stop at the table at least five minutes after she had taken the card initially and she had not run it through yet. I would recommend the Crab Trap to anybody who likes their fish fried and doesn't mind being on "island time."

I am a local and we eat here frequently. The food is good. My main complaint is this year they raised prices and took some sides off the menu. Rice and black eyed peas are gone. Service has been excellent over the years. It can be very crowded on summer weekends, but they will be open past 11 pm if there is a big crowd.

The hot crab dip was great! We had 8 people in our group with 3 kids and were sat immediately... The had little buckets for the kids to play with. I ordered the shecrab soup which was excellent! The husband got blackened fish of some kind which he shared with everyone because it was so good. Hush puppies great, cole slaw pretty good... Oysters good... All around great place for dinner with the family :)

    Mediocre food. Tourist trap.

The Crap Trap has two locations: Fort Walton and Destin. Both locations are on the beach and offer beautiful views of the gulf. The menu is limited, but what they do offer is excellent. We've always had the blackened grouper and Cajun chicken pasta which are some of the best I've ever had. Prices are reasonable, for most items, and they have a full bar that offer a good scene. Definitely a good joint to check out!!!

The CrabTrap is a tourist trap! It is big, memrobilia on the walls, flat screen TV's everywhere, and loud. It has on the plus side, great views, good music, plenty of free parking, lots of shops surrounding it (So the wife could shop), We went late one Saturday and the Service was fantastic!!! If that was all there was to review, the place would get 5 stars...but the food... was mediocre. The clam chowder was mostly potatoes / little clam... the shrimp dip was tasty except the chips were stale... I had the Fried seafood platter and everything was frozen and out of a box! How can you boast being on the ocean and literally down the street from the docks and serve frozen seafood.

Went there for lunch. Had Buffalo Shrimp: good. Crap dip: excellent. Then had the lunch special which was a santa fe fish arrangement: decent. Great location. Service a little slow. Was a little pricey but a good experience in general.

Coming from a land lover like me, I don't eat sea food, but the Crab shack was good. My buddy and I went here for lunch after visiting the boardwalk to see what it was about. I really don't care for sea food as stated previously, but if it comes to crab or lobster I generally give it a chance. I was looking forward to trying some native crab when I read the menu and had a large dissappointment. They had several species of crab available for consumption here, most of them come from the waters of Alaska. Last I checked, Alaska was a lot closer to Kansas than it was to Florida. Disappointed we ordered the crab cheeze dip and I had a steak. The crab dip was good. The steak, cooked to perfection. I didn't even need the A-1 I had requested for a "Just in case and I hate to run down the server" situation. My buddy even had me try some of his grouper sandwich, which I determined was good, even though I don't care for fish. The service was great, the beer Yuenling is a good beer reccomendation, and if it were more of a local cuisine for the shellfish I would have given it five stars.

Wow! What a difference a year or so makes. Went to Crap Trap over the weekend, I haven't been in quite a while and boy things have changed. First, they went wayyyy up on their prices, $16.99 for a basket of thrown in the fryer frozen popcorn shrimp? You've got to be kidding me! I opted for the burger this go round because I was burnt out on all the seafood I took in over the weekend. The burger was awful! The only way to describe the taste was the fact that is was just not there! Second, the crab dip I raved over in my previous review had changed as well. Before they served tortilla chips with the crap dip, now pita bread?? Third, PIGEONS!! Yes, pigeons all over the outdoor patio area! We kept having to scare them away to enjoy our food, nothing makes you more nervous than having to look every second to make sure there's no extra pigeon dressing on your food! I know it's all part of nature and what not, but they just make your dining experience nerve wracking! For the 2 of us to dine here at Crap Trap our bill was 50 bucks! We ordered an app (crab dip), 2 entrees (gross cheeseburger and undercooked grouper sandwich), and a bud light! Will not be back and will be advising other vacationers to the area to avoid this tourist trap!

The food was ok, the view was good, and they were family friendly. The downside was that for the money there is a lot better seafood out there. I would consider this more of a tourist trap place and where you should go if you want real quality seafood.

    (3)
  • Stef I.

This place is all about the breathtaking view of the beach (it's only a few yards from the water!!), the crab legs and crab cakes. It's my usual go-to when I'm in the area...you can't beat the price of a full plate of crab plus two sides!!

    (3)
  • Jutt W.

It was okay. Service was excellent though

Great place right on the coast to eat and relax at. I went with a big group and we sat on the deck which is large enough to hold bigger families. We ordered the oysters and crab dip for appetizers and the oysters were delicious. The Crab dip was very mayo tasting and needed some more crab and seasoning. I ordered the snow crab legs for dinner and they were perfect! The were cooked just the right amount of time to where they slid out nicely and tasted wonderful. I would highly recommend trying this place when in town. We also ate at the Black Pearl, which is in the same complex, the next night and it fell short in many areas when compared to the crab trap.

Best cole slaw I've ever had. The ambiance was nice. The location in Fort Walton is really neat. Our waiter was decent, but not super-friendly. It was an overall good experience, though.

Great beach front restaurant! Sat on the deck overlooking the Gulf of Mexico! Good food, fast and friendly service! I had the Crab Legs and crab cakes. Good portion size and very tasty. Husband had Mahi Mahi and grilled shrimp. He said both were excellent. Good choice for kids as well. One had fish and chips, the other had chicken strips. Good variety of drinks. Great place, great view, great service! Definitely will visit again if we are in the area.

  • Jodie J.

The location is great. If you are seated outside, you can look at the beautiful beach while enjoying the seafood. It looks busy all the time but the waiting is not too bad. The food is pretty much like Crab Shack. Shrimps are better as they are not overcooked as Crab shack. Crab legs are not as good though, small with less meat and taste watery. There are a little bit of steam choices but mostly fried food, the menu are mainly for tourists with kids. Price is medium comparing to most seafood restaurants around the area. Interestingly, fish dishes around the beach are mostly more expensive than the rest parts of the country. I figure people probably don't like to kill and cook their local fish but have to import some far from overseas to jack up the price. Otherwise why one tiny piece of fish is worth so much more than inland? People do not have any problems killing oysters because they are cheaper.

  • Katie M.

Have to give 2 stars this joint even though it's on the beach with a beautiful view of the water and the pier. It's more of 'tourist' place than a cool locals place. I ordered the amberjack fish sandwich which the menu stated was a local favorite. My husband ordered the mahi. As with all our fish, we got them blackened. The amberjack was dry and tasteless. Although I didn't smell it, my husband said it was fishy. The mahi was good. And you guessed it, I swapped mine for his. I always get plate envy. The staff was trying to put on a brave face, but they were burnt out from a huge private party that started at 10am. The crowd was drunk and obnoxious and there was no music. Pretty much a complete fail except for the view.

    (2)
  • Murray I.

Excellent views! Great location for dining The food was good. The amberjack was a little on the dry side but not too bad. The fried oysters (which were removed from the menu but they were nice enough to make it for us) were very good. The gumbo, which my wife ordered was better then expected. I never would have ordered it at this type of place but she was in the mood for gumbo and it worked out. One of my daughter's got the chicken burger which she kinda liked. A sold 3 1/2 stars.

We were seated in 15 minutes even though it looked very busy. Great location right next to the beach. We sat outside at sunset. Our server was attentive at times although he never asked me for a refill. Luckily a manager asked if we needed anything. We wanted a cup of gumbo to start off with but it end up coming with all our food which came out super quick! Hubs had shrimp and amberjack. They were good and I liked the hush puppies but fries were blech. Daughter and I shared crab and shrimp Alfredo which was pretty good. This place reminds me of a version of Joe's Crab Shack. Many fried foods and some steamed items too. It is a busy touristy place but not horrible and not amazing either. You will leave satisfied. Prices are fair. It is seafood.

  • Cynthia C.

It is a bit of a tourist place but...the food is good and the view is exceptional. I've never had a bad meal here and consistently good service. I love sitting outside. The food is a little pricey for what it is, but the few extra dollars are because it's right in the beach. It's worth it. If it's not too hot, the she crab soup is very good. Fried platters, crab claws, blackened fish, and salads are all basic but good. It's a happy place to hang out, have a fruity drink, some seafood and...be on vacation.

    (4)
  • Dee W.

Meal was very good and we would definitely come again Portions were normal size...not huge...which was a big plus for us Snow crab, grilled shrimp, Bronzed mahi mahi It was all really good

  • Laura J.

The star is for the view of the ocean. Sad place. Server was rude (Lily) aka ( shishama) or something close to that. Food was luke warm. Beer was warm. Wasted $120. On cold crab legs, fried shrimp, skimpy fish filet sandwich, and cold crab dip.

    (1)
  • Brayden B.

One of the best places to eat in Destin! The shrimp and crab cakes are the best! We always eat outside for a nice beach view.

    (5)
  • Jasmine G.

Wonderful view, we walked srraight to the beach after lunch. Are a whole pound and a half of crab legs, they where so good, and our waitress was very sweet. Spent quite a bit though, but worth it.

  • Robert L.

Great beach side location and everything we had was really good with large portions. You could easily fill up on the crab dip or clam chowder alone... As for the entrées, everything everyone had was good except maybe for my son's scallops. He didn't finish them. I don't know if that was their fault or just that my son doesn't really like them as much as he thought he might. Tasted OK to me but I find scallops are just not my favorite. Shrimp and grouper were both fresh and well prepared. Would definitely recommend. It IS a bit touristy location so be prepared for that. Still good though.

    (5)
  • Doug R.

Came in for lunch and ordered the surf n surf grilled. Mahi mahi was the best I'd ever eaten! The vegetables needed a little help but the meal as a whole was amazing. Great view of the ocean and helpful friendly staff.

    (5)
  • Junior R.

The atmosphere was great. And they seated us quick. The hostess was really nice and helpful. The steak was good and new potatoes was good. The crab dip wasn't very good it was ok and the shrimp scampi was not good. But the drinks were very good. The price was decent for the food we got. I would give them one more chance

  • Valerie S.

I've been here several times, mainly when I was a tourist. I don't frequent this place now that I live here but do like to take my out of towners at least once. The reviews are pretty spot on but if you want to watch the sunset in a great spot order the crab dip app and a couple Corona's and enjoy!

  • Ray Q.

Great view from restaurant, the service is slow and needs improvement-attentiveness. I am not sure how they task the servers, but have not seen him since taking our drink order. The tea was way too sweet and I wanted to mix with unsweet, but that took too long. In a 1 hour span, we saw our server 4 times and our first meeting. We are now waiting on our check. The best thing you can get here are conversations with others and a drink. Explain: A round burger on a square bun. The coleslaw sucked and the Mahi was not prepared properly. If you grill a frozen product it will retain some moisture and it must be seasoned before grilling-not after. When you season it after the fact, the moisture in the fish washes away the seasoning and makes the bread soggy. I was not impressed. I am not sure what is missing here with the food, but it needs help and to kick it it up a few notches. IMHO

    (2)
  • Deb H.

Very surprised by this place! Service was fast and friendly. I had the blacken Amberjack sandwich and my husband had the Bacon Ranch Grouper. Both were very delicious and the portions were generous. The She Crab soup was some of the best I've had. Also, Im not usually a coleslaw person but theirs was soooooo good! We will be back!

Hey it's got a view to die for. Bryan was a most excellent host. I was only there for the oysters which were a little Shelly but shucks it's hard work gettin to one dem critters. I give it a 4 for the hospitality. Serve those raw slurries with a rinse people.

Food and service we're great. Only complaint was the blackened shrimp was very heavily seasoned. Shod have just gotten grilled

I had the shrimp po boy which was really good and they didn't just give me a few shrimp and best of all our server Shane was really professional and friendly.

While this place is clearly over priced in my opinion, it's an ok place for a family stop on vacation. It's on a public access beach. Seating outdoors, with bar crowd. Parking can be tough.

    (3)
  • Jeff M.

First time here. It's good. I had the bronzed grouper, and my wife had the Alaskan snow crab. She loved it as well. I would definitely come here again.

  • Molly B.

We called 20 minutes ago, and asked if they did carryout, because Yelp says they do. They told us that there was a wait, so they couldn't do carryout over the phone, but that we could place a to-go order at the bar and wait for it there. We just got here, asked the hostess where to go for carryout, she pointed us to the bar, and the bar man told us they don't do carryout when there's a wait. I told him a man on the phone said we could do it at the bar and he just said "sorry." The girls at the hostess stand seemed too oblivious to anything to help us or answer why someone told us a lie, to get us to drive 20 minutes out here. I get why they don't do carryout when there's a wait, but they obviously don't communicate, or lie to get people to drive out here. Not impressed. Also, the patio is disgusting. I almost choked on all the cigarette smoke.

  • Bryana C.

Umm expensive almost everything was fried on the menu and my grilled fish was was over cooked the veggies were mushy and the rice was gross... it's in a cool spot on the beach but nothing was cooked right

  • Terra B.

I can't tell you about the food (you'll see why) but the service is atrocious! We were seated by the host and in the 20 minutes we were there, we saw 2 different bussers, and 3 different servers (2 of which were tending to the ONLY other customers at 2 different tables). I am sure they each made eye contact with us and saw we had menus, still nobody came to take our order or even bring water. It was NOT a busy afternoon and honestly I have a lot of patience for servers and bartenders however I could not see any reason why we could not be waited on within 20 minutes. Very sad to have gone here and had this happen because the view from their restaurant is beautiful. Obviously moral of the story is we didn't GET to try the food because we walked out. I was really disappointed.

    (1)
  • Kay B.

Huge tourist trap, when we first moved here this was the first restaurant we went to expecting more than what we received. We decided to sit at the bar, because there wasn't many people sitting at it and we saw why. It was filthy, the whole restaurant was filthy! The female bartender got our drinks and I ordered a Sprite. When you get to the end of a soda container, the soda sprays everywhere and that's what happened when she was filling my drink. She still gave me the drink and it tasted just like Co2, it was disgusting. She took forever to come back and then when she did she ignored us. The male bartender showed up and I asked him for a different drink and he took over taking care of us. He did a great job. The food we ordered was really greasy, but we ate because we were so hungry! We won't be coming back here!

  • Josh S.

The location on the beach is awesome! If the weather is nice and you have kids there is a huge playground for them while you are waiting for food or a table. The food and service was decent, nothing really unique but not bad.

    (3)
  • Karen W.

Beautiful view but the food doesn't match.Cole slaw is like shredded cabbage with a scoop of mayo on top...ick! I had the mahi mahi blackened sandwich. The bun was huge and fish portion very thin. I ate it without the bun so I could tasre it. Huge tourist trap that trapped us

    (2)
  • J B.

With so many seafood and waterfront restaurants along the strip, it's hard to stand out. You won't walk away from this place saying it was amazing, but you won't walk away saying it was bad either. It's good food, just nothing special. I think the portions are on the smaller side. The location is awesome. Perfect views of the Gulf. There's also a play area for the kids on property.

    (3)
  • Chris T.

Worst crab, gumbo and service I've ever had. Both the gumbo and snow crab was cold when it arrived... Snow crab small and overpriced. Cute hostesses though.

    (2)
  • Eric M.

My food was good. I got the crab legs and shrimp. There were 4 skinny little crab legs and 4 little shrimp, 2 red potatoes, and some corn. The meat portion was a joke for a $30 meal. The service was decent. The view from the outdoor seating was great.

    (3)
  • Lynda J.

We ate here 3 times during our stay. Food was great, and service was fast!! We had a server named Chris for 2 of the times, he was awesome. His son also helped with the large party we were with!!

  • Carl N.

I noticed a number of reviews citing high prices and not so perfect service but I chose to go next door & avoid having to get in the car. I'm afraid they were right. We (wife and grandaughter) really liked the view from The Crab Trap and actually enjoyed our food but the service was just marginal. We both had the she crab soup and it was delicious (but a little too much salt). I had an oyster po-boy and the oysters were fried perfectly with a nice lite batter. I would get that again anytime! The prices for entrees were in the mid-$20s. We choose less costly items to keep our cost down. It was nice to say we have been to The Crab Trap, but don't plan to go again.

    (3)
  • Sandy A.

Nice view of the ocean from this restaraunt! The food was pretty good, although I wish they had a broiled seafood platter with no fried food or shrimp heads. The kids liked their kids meals, served with a beach pail & small shovel. Our server was excellent!

  • David G.

Went with the family had a good time. Food was ok nothing fancy. Server was on the ball. It was $$$

    (3)
  • C L.

Beautiful view! Go and get a drink and enjoy the view, but eat elsewhere, the food wasn't very good.

    (2)
  • Rad M.

I'm only giving 3 stars because it too so long for us to get a server to come take our order. It was after 9 pm when we arrived and the restaurant was close to empty and it still took 10 minutes for her to come get our drink order. The food was delicious though. Be prepared to pay nicely. Will definitely try it again.

    (3)
  • Amanda P.

Low review is based soley on high prices Food is average, touristy food. (Primarily all fried options!) however, the crab dip appetizer is by far the best thing I ate on our entire vacay. Did have huge raw oyster appetizer. It was fair. Over $100 for lunch for four people. I left very unhappy about that!!! Will not be back.

    (3)
  • Clint S.

For lunch... Oysters are good, beer is cold, calamari is good and my teenage daughters approve of the atmosphere. Definitely will be returning for a crab leg dinner. Service was great. My girls have high expectations so this is a great place even according to them.

    (4)
  • Tim S.

Should be called the tourist trap. Food is below average and overpriced. Drinks are weak and overpriced. The seafood doesn't even taste as fresh as it should considering the location. The one redeeming quality is the view. Nice spot to walk around after and enjoy the beautiful beaches. Don't bother going here - there are other nice places close by.

    (2)
  • Jack M.

The view here was great! ... And that's about it. The crab trap should probably just be called the tourist trap... noisy, stereotypical decor, and over priced. I got the crab cakes, which were good, but not the best I've ever had. As far as sides it came with a couple of hush puppies and a dry rice pilaf. Good choice of beer and drinks... but they were on the pricey side. I mean I got one Longhammer IPA at the same price the same six-pack costs at Publix. The hostess and waitress's were really nice! More than anything, you're paying for the awesome views of the Gulf. Unfortunately, a lack-luster restaurant calls for a lack-luster review... there really isn't too much to write about other than the fact I was disappointed. Overly-touristy, overly-priced, decent food... I don't think I'll be back. There are so many other quality seafood restaurants in the area.... skip this one.

    (2)
  • Paul D.

The hostess promptly greeted me, led me to a seat, and handed me a menu. That was the last time anyone came by. Nobody came by to take my order. Fifteen minutes later I gave up. I will never return.

    (1)
  • Rebecca C.

For the second time, always give a restaurant 2 chances, service was poor ( had to ask for water repeatedly, at a seafood restaurant- unforgivable), food was bland( this is blackened???). One set of silverware had debris in the napkin. Never again!

    (2)
  • Sara B.

I chose not to eat here after a crabby, fat waitress kept ignoring me because we came from the beach. No shoes and No shirt is a problem... Stupid lady. Don't come from the beach if you want to eat here.

    (1)
  • Strysan M.

The food sucked. It came out cold, I ordered a half pound of crab legs and 2 crabcakes, and it tasted like they were both frozen. The waiter is nice... No discount for poor food quality.

Very touristy. But the view is great. Get outdoor seating. I went here because my mom was visiting me and she wanted to go. We went for lunch on a weekday. No wait. Hostess was pleasant. Waiter was attentive without being annoying. Menu had a lot of options. I got the grouper sandwich. It tasted...well, it didn't really have a taste. Seasoning was obviously done after it was cooked. And I'm not a seafood expert by any stretch but it tasted like it was frozen, definitely not fresh. Kinda moist/squishy. Bleh! Definitely not worth the money.

Fresh seafood salad and Mahi Mahi sandwich were delicious. Service was very good and food was prepared quickly. Our kids enjoyed their food too. Normally the kids receive a bucket and shovel to play with after they eat, but they didn't have any left. That's fine though, there is an outside playground on the beach. We came here 2 years ago and had to come again while we were on vacation. Love it here.

Pricey. Every seafood meal is $20 or more. No lunch menu. The waiter wasn't very attentive. We had to call him over several times. Crab cakes are good. But not worth $20. It was a large order, but it could have been a smaller order. Cute place on the beach. I will drive into Destin instead next time.

I came here with my boyfriend and we were sat immediately on a Friday night around 6. The service was fast and our waitress was great. The food was great, too. I definitely recommend the hot crab dip! However, the food was a bit pricey, but the portions were huge. I will go back if I am in the area.

Went here for the first time, and I have to say I am very impressed. I had the fish and shrimp combo and I was hesitant to try new things but it's the first time I have had actual real fish so I say, I will be coming back. Since it was at the beach me and my brother, sister in law and their kids went to the beach then had lunch. Good way to finish off a day at the beach.

I spend a lot of time in this area for work, this is one of the better touristy restaurants I go to. It's not amazing by any means but this week I have gone to AJs, Maguires and Crab Trap and this is the only one I will do again in the near future.

I ordered the gumbo and it was not good. I was born and raised in Louisiana and it doesnt taste right. I did like how spicy it was though. My friend ordered the fried squid. It was ok but very greasy.. I had the crystal beach cooler cocktail and it was good it tasted like juice. So watch out for that lol next thing you know you will be drunk. Great atmosphere located on the beach...

Great Service! Best salad I've eaten in a while. Ordered Cajun Pasta OMGOSH large plate couldn't eat but a 1/4 of it! Husband ordered Maui Maui & loved it!! Daughter got spaghetti, no complaints. My son ordered snowcrab & loved it too!! Great place!! Great View!! One of my favorites for here!!!

Decent quality, but a bit over priced. Good service and a great location make this an easy choice for those on Okaloosa Island who might be looking for seafood in a casual atmosphere. The pier is right next door and great for an after dinner stroll. I'd do it again....

It's common to want a nice cold beer while out on the deck overlooking the beach. Crap Trap has just that sort of fun outdoor atmosphere. The food is average and pretty overpriced. Lots of fried stuff. The servers are kind of pushy. Ours tried to take away our plates like 5 times. Once I still had the fork in my hand poised over some food that was ready to be delivered into my mouth. It's like um no, ass swab, can you not see that I'm still eating?

VERY VERY DISAPPOINTING!!!!! SERVICE WAS DISGUISING OVER PRICED FOR WHAT IT IS WORTH DRINKS WERE VERY WEAK FOOD IS AVERAGE We decided to start our vacation in Destin with a family night on the town, so we decided to go "THE CRAB TRAP". It was definitely a trap. The evening started out well. We order our starters and drinks. The food was ok but the first round of drinks were a bit weak. The food comes and we order another round of drinks. The drinks were even worse, Trying to enjoy the evening we eat, drink, and talk. We begin to bring our evening to a close and then we get caught in the trap. For some reason the waiter had an extremely rough time dividing the bill 3 way for a party of 7. We spent more time trying to get the bill together than we did dining. On top of it all the waiter got frustrated with us because "HE" could not get the bill together, We even wrote it out for him and he still came back with the incorrect information, After we finally cleared it up on his ninth or tenth try, he comes back with two containers and throws them on the table and walks away. I guess it was our complimentary desserts for the confusion. I would never know since "HE" did not feel the need to apologize or explain anything, How rude,!!!!!!!! Forgot to mention, the following day we get food poisoning. You would think the food would be fresh since we are feet away from the beach, The name fits. We got baited in and then trapped. Beware.

Here on the 7th of sept, I think the same people or corp own all these places on the boardwalk, and the lack of diversication shows..pretty much the same items on the menu here, floyds, and anglers..basically a repeat of my floyds shrimp house review, steak was slightly better here..maybe because were heading into the off season, or because they only care about serving overpriced alcohol to tourists, but these places sucked..

Was sitting for 10 min, table next to us got sat and promptly seen by a waiter. Had to alert host desk that we weren't seen by anyone yet. No biggie. Stuff happens. Then it went downhill. Waiter (Steve) came to take our drink order, zero apology for marooning us at a table from waiter, host, or manager. Minus one star. Took drink order, but couldn't take food order at the same time. Perplexing because he actually wrote our drinks down. A non-alcoholic smoothie took another three rounds of "almost done!!" before it was dropped off. Was only three of us so...yea not a huge table. No lemons in tea or offer of them either. Note that it wasn't a busy night at all, no one in the weeds or being double sat. It was actually friggen dead. There were numerous staff wandering about talking with each other. Minus another star. View was nice at least so one star for that. Bring a jacket at night time as you get a constant breeze. Minus another star because people smoke on the outdoor deck. The breeze then tosses their ashes all over you so that negates the view. Food: sub par for the price. Reduce it by 60% and you can justify it. Another star gone. Better places exist with staff that seem to give a damn that they are in the service industry and are paid by tips and kept employed by favorable interactions with guests. Old Bay Steamer is nearby with exceptional quality. Go there instead.

Great waitress, very friendly. Food not so good for being near the shore. It was like eating at Red Lobster. Didn't seem fresh to me.

Excellent service and food!! We went to seceral places during our week in destin and this was my favorite. There was no wait to eat but there were plenty of customers. The food came quick and was awsome. We will be coming back.

I have been here a few times mostly because it was convenient with a beautiful view. The 2 stars are for this reason and the service. Other than that the food sucks big time! The gumbo tastes like it's from a bag and the rice they put on top wasn't fully cooked, there were hard pieces of rice in it. I then ordered the broiled crab claws and a salad. The crab claws tasted old and over cooked and despite my asking for minimal butter they were still swimming in butter. The salad was a run of the mill dinner salad but the vegetables seemed old and dried out. The only time I would suggest going here is if you are coming in off the beach for a drink and decide to order a fried appetizer. Everything tastes good fried right?

  • Christi T.

We came on a very busy night but were lucky enough to get a table at the bar. The server was very friendly and tried her best to keep up the pace even though it was so busy. The food came out pretty quickly and was surprising good considering how hectic it appeared to be on a Saturday night. The surf n surf was my choice with mixed veggies and rice pilaf (more like plain white rice) and my husband got a standard chicken sandwich and fries. It wasn't a standout dinner of our trip but the view afterwards if you head out to the beach area and pier makes a memorable experience in itself.

Okay so I've only been in the area for two weeks or so and I can already name off the top of my head at LEAST five other places with better seafood/prices etc than Crab Trap. Just know if you are coming here it is for the location/views. Almost all of the seafood was fried, most plates are $20-$25 (more for Crab), service was really slow on drinks and the only good deal is the 29 cent gumbo. If you want good seafood check out Louisiana Lagniappe (fancier), Dewey's of Destin, Stewby's Seafood Shanty, etc. Especially if you're on vacation here, don't waste your time at this place.

Touristy? Yes. Overpriced? Yes. Limited options? Yes. If you don't like the typical fried seafood fare of only the touristy of tourist destinations, you will not like this place...unless you just don't know any better.

Fun place with a beautiful view, but like others have said the food and drinks are kind of overpriced. The crab is delicious though! Don't bother with the Emerald Top Shelf Margarita - honestly not sure what I was thinking. $10.99 for a drink made with Jose Cuervo? But it was the first day of our honeymoon, so we were not very discerning. Raw oysters - again don't bother. They were dirty, not cleaned up very well and ok. For entrees we both got snow crab with a crab cake, new potatoes, corn, & hush puppies. The crab was delicious!!! I don't order seafood enough to know how the price was, but the crab was really good. The crab cake had too much breading for my taste and the potatoes were good, but I was too full to even touch the corn or hus puppies. So not the worst place, just stick to the crab.

The sign is big, but keep driving. This place was horrible. Everything tasted like plastic. They're right near the ocean, but the seafood was gross, not sure how they managed. I had the strawberry lemonade, tasted like plastic. I ordered the gulf shrimp feast with garlic, teriyaki and fried shrimp-horrible. My husband had the mahi mahi-horrible. The rice pilaf, vegetables and new potatoes were also horrible. The decor was nice though.

This restaurant has an awesome view the food is good but not great for the price you will pay and the service is pretty slow. Expect to only see your waiters when you order, after the food comes and when its time for the bill. We had crab legs, Crab Cakes, Crab dip, Snaper, and shrimp. They are good size portions but the food is not as good as it could be. We ordered two drinks which were very small and very expensive compare to other places in the area. This place is more of a tourist trap.

When we ate here it was slow because we were here for lunch during the week. The place is big with a lot to look at, and the bathrooms are actually nice. The food is another story. I had the blackened grouper sandwich. The fish was a half inch thick and was dominated by the large piece of bread. It was overcooked and had a portion that was underdone or see-through :( The wife on the other hand enjoyed her shrimp po boy sandwich. I expected better food for the price.

Beautiful view of the beach and great spot to sit and look out!! We decided to stop by here on our way out of the city, and the Crab Trap definitely served it's purpose for us. We were looking to find a place that would give us one last view of the ocean and beach without actually having to wade through the sand or getting too pricey with it, and offering us a seafood fare. We definitely received checks on both of those items by going to the Crab Trap. I ordered the Shrimp Po Boy, and I believe the boy had the Grouper, as it was the special for the day. None the less, the food was pretty decent, for cheap seafood by the beach, and the view was amazing. I must say, do NOT get the coleslaw as your side item, I made that mistake thinking it might be the creamy coleslaw type that I like, but it was definitely not. It tasted like the coleslaw that you find at your local grocery store thrown straight out of the bag. Additionally, the hushpuppies I found to be a little hard, which was a fail, since hush puppies are a must with seafood. Other than that it was a meal that wasn't anything extravagant, but met the expectations of beach food fare. Not really much more to say about it, just your run of the mill beach stop.

The view is by far the best part of going to this place. It's too noisy for conversation, too crowded to be comfortable, and too pricy for a causal experience. It's a touristy place on the beach and price represents that. My 13-yr-old son and I went together and our bill was $57 (with tip) for two people. My son had the shrimp Alfredo for $20.99 and it was a decent portion but not huge. I had the bronzed mahi and grilled shrimp (also $20.99) with very bland veggies and rice with a slight hint of lemon. The food was okay. The meals do not have any thing "extra" included in the price such as salad, soup or bread. There are much better places to eat, but the efficiency and speed that we received our food was good. We tried several restaurants before deciding on this one due to the standing room only lines the others had. Not likely to go again with all the other choices. I'd rather stand in line a little longer for better food or larger quantity for the price.

Probably more of a 3 1/2 stars, but we did take our guests here anytime we had out-of-town visitors (we've since moved out of the area.) Very touristy, but with beautiful views of the ocean, and pretty decent food. They give complimentary buckets and shovels for the kids to take down to the beach, which is cute, and the boardwalk in general is a really nice place to spend a lazy afternoon, with a beach playground and a gelato place.

Went here with some work colleagues. I guess it's what you would expect from a place called the crab trap. Divey atmosphere, greasy bar food, nothing to write home about. I will try to find better options next time I'm in town.

Atmosphere and service was great. Of course this was early May, before tourist season. We got a discount for being locals, which was a nice bonus. I got steamed shrimp (hot, with old bay seasoning) and a salad, and they were both delicious. I could have eaten two pounds of that shrimp!

Stopped by Ft Walton on a beautiful afternoon. The view is from a second floor overlooking the Gulf on a beautiful Tuesday afternoon. My wife and I both love fish tacos ordered the fish tacos from the lunch menu for just $9 ... including two sides and hush puppies. The tacos were flavorful and outstanding! The service was great . It was slow at 2:00 at this time of year ... and may be different during the high season, but we'll be back!

We went here on a sunny afternoon in October. I can only imagine what a nightmare this place could be like in the summer. However, in October, it wasn't crowded and we easily sat overlooking the beautiful beach and emerald ocean. It was great to sit in the sun with a yummy drink and just enjoy being outside on the water. The garlic blue crab claws were little, and therefore disappointing, but I loved the sauce they came in. My blackened fish sandwich was perfection and the perfect answer for a light lunch. They let me sub out fries for broccoli, which was also nice. I also enjoy their hushpuppies. This will not be a gourmet dining experience, but I felt the price was right for the food I enjoyed. Besides, you can't find a better backdrop for a restaurant! Loved it!

Good food, drinks and service. My wife and I had daquaris at first and had to ask for extra shots to be put in because they tasted virgin. They gave us the shots free of charge. Saaweet!! We both shared a fried clam meal with french fries. everything came out tasty and prepared as it should. Service was prompt and they kept my sweet tea glass full. If your on the beach craving some seafood check this place out.

They called it Crab Trap, because Tourist Trap just sounds too gaudy. The food is totally mediocre and waaaaaaaay over-priced. I had the Tequila Grouper something-or-other. Got the slaw and jasmine rice for sides. It was just OK. Nothing special and definitely not worth the price. The hubby got the Fried Platter, which was good, but nothing out of the ordinary. The crab dip was pretty good, the hush puppies were excellent, and the beer is fairly priced. I would say go for drinks and appetizers, but if you are looking for a great meal, go somewhere else.
